How I became a dog trainer
I did not get my first dog
until I was 20 years old.
One day my college roommate’s dog ran
away. We tried to find him at the local shelter.
Instead of finding my roommate’s dog, I came
home with a scrappy little 7-week-old mutt that
I named Floyd. I ended up spending most of my
time with this little puppy and I soon learned
that the more time you spend with an animal, the
more he trusts you. The
more they trust you, the more they will do for
you.
I taught
Floyd to do a variety of tricks, including how
to get into the bathtub on command! I really
enjoyed my time teaching Floyd and realized that
I had a knack for it. I began reading books on
dog training, and practiced with my friends'
dogs. Once I graduated from college I had to
choose: go into the field I studied for, a
stockbroker; or do what I really had come to
love, training dogs.
